Despite the CDC’s pleas for Americans to stay home for the holidays, many refused to miss out on family and social gatherings during Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s. Throughout the country, these decisions are now reflected in the surging numbers of patients in hospitals and bodies in morgues. Were these events predictable?
