ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence chatbot from OpenAI, is taking the digital world by storm. This month’s reader survey asks about your experiences with the app and your predictions for its future.
My thoughts: Like most Americans, readers of this newsletter possess broad awareness of—and limited hands-on exposure to—generative AI apps like ChatGPT. And most remain uncertain about the future of this powerful technology. Still, 81% predict it will have a major impact on our lives within the next five years.
Each week, I hear from more and more doctors who are using the current version of ChatGPT (GPT-3), which can only access data through 2021, to make difficult diagnoses and provide medical information to patients. A decade from now, generative AI will be at least 30-times more powerful if it follows Moore’s Law—an observation the technology doubles in capability every two years. Whatever the pace, future applications will surpass anything we can imagine today.
